AIPS-NS

The Association of International Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia [AIPS NS] is a collective voice for International Medical Graduates [IMGs] to effectively communicate our issues to stakeholders and the public. AIPS NS is a non-profit organization based on dedicated volunteerism through our executives, members and other supporting organizations. We represent physicians and surgeons who obtained their medical training outside of Canada and choose Nova Scotia to be their home. Our member’s knowledge, talent and skills will add significant value to Nova Scotia’s Health System. We collaborate with many stakeholders in different capacities to improve the integration of IMGs in Nova Scotia and create a fair and just licensing process for this group. We demonstrate our valuable contribution through cooperating first amongst ourselves as doctors from around the world and use the same skills to work with health care stakeholders, employers and educators.

BACKGROUND

AIPS NS was founded 2005 with a small group of IMGs and very limited resources and support available. Over the years, the number of members has increased dramatically and the association has gained a solid reputation at a provincial level. Currently, AIPS NS membership exceeds 120 IMGs with diverse experiences and from over 25 countries. Half of our members are family physicians and the other half have various specialty experiences. Our members are at various stages in the licensing process. Unfortunately most are not yet licensed to practice medicine in Canada but others are currently in residency or practice.
